Hotel Dance
Resin
World premiere 29 August 2012, Oslo Opera house.
Inspired by dadaistic ideas Ekman played with timing and tried to not make sense of anything in the piece. Often in Ekmans work there is a strong concept but in this piece the concept exactly the opposite; a piece about nothing.
The dancers set up a series of bizarre situations like dancing with salmons, puking on stage, dancing ballet and a five minute mini version of Swan Lake, presenting an entertaining yet bizarre world.
Resin was created for the National Ballet of Norway in 2012 and toured through Norway in the fall of 2012.
Ekmans Tap Dance
Den Haag, Netherland 2007
A short little dance film recorded in Den Haag June 2007.
With and by Alexander Ekman.
Tuplet
World premiere: 22 May 2012, Joyce Theatre, NYC.
Tuplet is a swift, pulsating, eighteen-minute tour-de-force for six dancers which asks the question, what is rhythm? Utilizing a score created in collaboration with the dancers own rhythmic impulses and employing their bodies as percussion instruments, the soundscape is integrated with original electronic music composed by Mikael Karlsson. The composition bounces back and forth between the live body sounds of the dancers and the recorded score in combinations of irrational rhythms and groupings, to stunning visual and aural effect.
In 2012 Ekman collaborated together with pop singer Alicia Keys who was incorporated into Tuplet. This was for the annual Black Ball event in New York City to raise money for HIV and AIDS in Africa.
Episode 17

In Ekmans Episode 17, a group of people gather regularly, in episodes, in order to explore diferent themes. On this occasion, Episode 1–17, the theme is Boléro. How should it be performed? How can they understand or describe themselves within this theme? hey have studied and practiced for a long time. In seventeen scenes, crazy wigs and experiments they explore and analyse different relationships, movements, identities, truths and lies. And theatre itself, that of stepping in and out of different roles. Different pre-recorded Boléros are found and gradually Ravel´s is heard too as a bolerian way of breathing …
What will happen in episode 18–35?
The piece later toured France, USA, Germany, Stockholm and Luxemburg.
